Portrait of a Spanish (?) man

An impressive bust, representing a man with long hair and a typical "Spanish collar", a fur coat and a richly decorated jacket with buttons. Stylistically our work is very related to Rombout Verhulsts work in the 1660-70ties (eg Portrait of Willem Joseph baron van Ghent, and portrait of Jacob Van Reygersbergh, both in the Rijksmuseum in Amsterdam).
Rombout Verhulst was a sculptur, born in Flanders but most of his life active in the Northern Netherlands. He was influenced by Artus Quellinus (with whom he collaborated in the Town Hall of Amsterdam) and Lucas Faydherbe. His most famous project is the mausoleum of Michiel De Ruyter in De Nieuwe kerk in Amsterdam.
