Man with a Tankard
Hendrick Bloemaert
(Utrecht 1601-1672)
Hendrick was the son of the famous Utrecht painter Abraham Bloemaert. He received his education in his father's workshop and travelled to Italy around 1626-27. Around 1631 he returned to the Dutch Republic and became a member of the Guild of Saint Luke and stayed in his hometown for the rest of his life.
The presented work is a great example of Bloemaert's caravaggesque style and recalls other famous painters from the "Utrecht School", such as Jan Van Bijlert and Hendrick Ter Brugghen.
