Katherine Von Bora, a former Cistercian nun from a Wittenberg' convent, married Martin Luther in 1525. They were blessed with 6 children and had set the tone for marriage amongst/with clergy. She, Katharina, stepped forward in the emancipation of women, a rol that she would carefully elaborate under the strict eye of the clergy.
The Roman-Katholic Church scornfully called her 'the Lutheran'. It is in fact what we are looking at, a caricatural panel in which the man in the back, wearing the glasses, is wagging his preaching finger to the heretical couple in the front.
Panel, tondo, diameter: 17cm; orginal inscription "Luther"
