Still Life with Fruits, a Tazza and a Silver plate
Pomegranates and quinces are presented on a silver platter on a tabletop covered with a white cloth. Peaches and grapes are arranged in a tazza. A curtain cord can be seen in the background on the left.
Willem van Aelst was born in Delft and studied under his uncle, Evert van Aelst (1602–1657). During his trip to Italy from 1649 to 1652, Willem van Aelst was active in Florence, where Cardinal Giancarlo de Medici (1611–1663) was his patron. After returning from Italy, he worked in Amsterdam.
