Landscape with a Robbery

Peeter Snaijers, an active member of the St.Luke guild of Antwerp and later Brussels, was a court painter with the rank of lieutenant-colonel. This is reflected also in his choice of subjects. Often with an array of warriors, battlefields and lots of direct action.

Here, we see a mystic landscape, dead trees, a waterfall and an arch under which the robbery is taking place. The figures are almost subordinate to the scenery and not very elaborate. Nature and it's surrounding is overflowing the small and rather insignificant men at the bottom of the painting.
