Head of a Satyr

This spectacular drawing is related to Rubens' painting of "The Drunken Silenus" in the Alte Pinakothek in Munich (1616-17), where we perceive the same laughing satyrs-head in the background. Yet our drawing shows a slightly more intense look, interesting pentimenti and retouchings are visible (eg at cheek and nose). Despite its high quality and strong hand, we found no sure attribution so far. We probably have to situate the sheet in Ruben's closest surroundings and it served as study material, a detailed study.
