This very nice and impressive terracotta-sculpture of a Triton is very comparable to works of Lucas Faydherbe (Mechelen 1617-1697). Eg: Faydherbes "Triton" in the KMSK in Brussels.
It can be dated around 1650 and its style is very Rubenesque
Iconographically, the putto represents a Triton blowing on a shell and holding a – now missing – trident in its right hand. Other ‘marine’ features are the chain of shells across its chest, the netting in his hair and the dolphin at its feet.
